What is the wifi direct?

In last entry, I have talked about the Wifi display, I think you should have a basic idea of the Wifi Display. So what is the wifi direct? What is the difference with Wifi display?

As we know Wifi Display is a feature something like the TV out, people don't need to cable to connect with a monitor and watch videos. But Wifi Direct is also used to transfer data wireless. We can say it is a "enhanced Bluetooth" function. People can transfer videos or audios to other device by the Bluetooth Direct function. It is just used to transfer data, not like the Wifi display.

For example, you can transfer the musics stored in your tablet pc or smart phones to your MP3 play which is also coming with wifi direct function.

So what is the benefit and flaws of the wifi direct? As we know, now you can also transfer data by bluetooth function built in the device. Compared with bluetooth, wifi direct has a faster network speed. I have tried to transfer a video file of 17GB to my PC with wifi direct function. It takes only 12 minutes, but if using bluetooth, it may take about several hours. Second, the valid distance is longer. Usually, bluetooth connection can be workable within 15 meters, but wifi can be workable over 50 meters. But when you use wifi direct to send files, you'd better disconnect with the modem, otherwise, it may fail the transfer.

The flaw of the wifi direct is the high power consumption, it is over 2 times higher than bluetooth.

Now, the Wifi display and Wifi direct is quite common in the latest moviles android and tablet pc.
